Texas East Division- Ross Motor Sports Kickoff Tournament

What an exciting way to start a season!  So blessed to have Ross Motor Sports as our sponsor and division dealership!  Friday evening had our fishing family going to the beautiful Broaddus High School Gymnasium for check in and pre-tournament banquet!  Approximately 400 family and friends joined in the banquet fellowship festivities as long time members were introduced to hundreds of new family members.  It was an awesome sight to behold!

We were once again blessed by Daron Skero, of Skero Furniture, to a fantastic meal of smoked sausage hoagies, kettle chips and sinful brownies!  Daron and his team have been providing our division’s food for a decade now and are a blessing beyond words.

As the meeting portion began we were treated to Angie Adkins singing the National anthem and then once again just prior to our speaker when she sang the beautiful song “Sanctuary”.  Many thanks to her and her husband Ford Adkins , Ross Motor Sports representative to FOM, for their support of our division.

We at Fishers of Men are so blessed to be sponsored by Bass Cat Boats and we were extremely blessed to have Rick Pierce, President of Bass Cat Boats, come and share his story and heart with our family.  Rick challenged us to take a moment and check the mirror about judging others and start looking at ourselves for ways to take on the true face and heart of Jesus.  Between Angie’s singing and Rick’s message the spirit was moving as we had one of our senior men answer the Lord’s call on his life along with numerous decisions to turn around and renew commitments to walk closer with the Lord.  I am sure we caused a smile on the Fathers face.

Saturday found us weighing in our 129 teams at the completion of a very windy day which caused a large part of our draw to pullout without weighing.  Big Sam gets really mean when the wind blows!  At the end of the day the solo team of Lindy Hadley dropped a sack on the scales that weighed 18.45 and allowed him to claim the first $10,000.00 check of the season!  Second place honors went to long time Texas Team Larry Nassar and Lynn Thibodeaux with their catch tipping the scales at 17.85.  Rounding out the top three was the team of Roy Radcliff and David Truax with a bag that weighed 16.49.  Big fish honors went to the humorous team of Danny Cherry and Mark Lanham with a 9.16 beast!

All in all we were so excited to be able to serve all of the faithful longtime members but were overjoyed with the hundreds of new members that have come to be a part of our fishing family!  Our hope is that friendships that will last a lifetime will be formed and that everyone will feel the love of Jesus each and every time they come together in fellowship and fishing at Texas East events.

We are so  very thankful to Lucas Holloway, Superintendent Broaddus ISD,  and Kim Holloway, Broaddus High School Principal, for their willingness to partner with Fishers of Men in this ministry effort.

Texas East’s next event is February 18, 2023 on Sam Rayburn (Cassels Boykins)  with the meeting at Broaddus High School on the 17^th.  Please stay on mission and invite, invite, invite!!
