Jonathan “Bear” Woods, linebacker for the Montreal Alouettes, was our speaker. He brought a powerful message to our audience on perseverance and witnessing. He told about how he grew up active in different sports. He played high school, college and pro football mostly as a walk-on. He told the youth you have to be motivated to give 100% plus and make every chance count. He told them how he won the respect of his teammates by his performance on the field. He started a prayer time following workout sessions. In the beginning he had 3 prayer partners but other teammates kept asking what are y’all doing and by the end of the season the group was up to 12 members. He said it is hard to witness in a mostly hostile environment so you need to be different; you need to stand out. You need to keep your cool in adverse situations so people will want to know why you are behaving different. This gives you a chance to witness about Jesus. There was 1 profession of faith and 2 recommitments.

Alabama Central’s first Legacy meeting for the 2017 season was held at FBC Tallassee. Lee Patterson and Mrs. Pat did an outstanding job of stepping into a gap and feeding our teams and their families on short notice. Lee fried up fish, hushpuppies, and fries and Mrs. Pat made S’mores cake with ice cream topping. We had 44 people present to enjoy the feast! We thank the church for opening its youth suite to us.

The weather did not cooperate. Our teams were greeted with cold, wet, windy weather.  Although the weather was gloomy, spirits were high! Our youth anglers were eager to get out on the water. Alabama Central has a 3 fish limit for our Legacy teams. Sixteen of our eighteen teams brought a limit to the scales. 100% of the fish were released alive. A total of 51 fish were weighed in for a total of 86.26 pounds. First place and big fish went to the  team of Watson/Fuqua with 7.15 lbs. including big fish at 2.58 lbs.  Second place went to the team of Cartee/Cartee with  6.21 lbs. Third place and 1st Bonus Bucks went to the father/daughter team of Drinnon/Drinnon with 5.76 lbs. Fourth place and 2nd bonus bucks went to the team of father/son team of Hopper/Hopper 5.75 lbs. Fifth place and 3rd Bonus Bucks went to another father/son team, Knoll/Knoll with 5.41 lbs. Rounding out our winners in sixth place was the father/son team of Vaccaro/Vaccaro with 5.09 lbs. Amelia Barley was the winner of our weigh-in drawing for a Berkley “AMP” casting rod.

“Surrounded then as we are by  this great rank of witnesses, let us leave behind everything that hinders us, as well as the sin which dogs our feet, and let us run the race that we have to run with patience, our eyes fixed on Jesus the source and goal of our faith.” Hebrews 12:1

We look forward to seeing everyone next month at Shoal Creek Baptist Church. Come fish Lake Jordan with us!
