The Kentucky LBL division kicked off their first-ever division tournament at Moor's Resort on Kentucky Lake on Saturday March 4th. This famous fishery of massive Kentucky Lake and Barkley Lake had been experiencing unusually warm weather which produced higher water temperatures than normal this early in the year. The area was hit by a severe cold front right before the tournament started which seemed to force the bass to have lock-jaw. Fortunately the bright sunshine took the 30 degree temps into the 60's before the day was over.

Nine teams arrived for the pre-tournament meeting at Moor's lodge. Pastor Dave Siegmann shared from God's word that according to Titus 3:5 it is "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us" and that if our works could save us Christ would not have had to die on the cross for our sins. It was a wonderful time of fellowship and everyone is convinced this new division will only grow from here.

The teams blasted off into the cold and some managed to catch a few fish on a brief early morning bite. Then it seemed slow until the SW wind and full sun warmed things up. Still bites were few and far between, but what fish were caught were typical Kentucky Lake quality bass.

The team of Ken Heckel and Steve Muenier made all the right decisions and came in first place with a weight of 22.99lbs anchored by a giant 7.07lb Largemouth. They reported catching a dozen keepers, but since the patterns may not change drastically at the next tournament they remained pretty tight lipped as to what lures produced their large sack. Their efforts earned them $812.50.

The 2nd place team of Doug Florkowski and Scott Wasson reported only putting 5 keepers in the boat and 4 of those came shortly before the weigh-in. They caught their fish on red crankbaits in less than 6' of water on rocky banks. They earned $150 for their weight of 15.16lbs.

A very close 3rd place team of Chris and Jody Wash caught their fish on crankbaits and jigs. They came to the scales 13.80lbs. Chris and Jody have fished many FOM events in the last 20 years.

Our Bonus bucks winners were also very happy with a total payout of $125.00 divided between three teams. Because our second, third and fourth place teams didn’t play bonus bucks, (remember to play bonus bucks) we sent $37.50 home with James Kauffman and Justin Brandon. This was the first winning for this young man so he was very excited to go home with a check. Our third place Bonus bucks went to Chad Long and Lynne Long for a total of $25.00.

Spread the word about our next LBL division tournament which will also be out of Moor's resort on April 1st...No Joke!! Most if not all the teams plan to come back to Moor's and we already have other teams who did not fish with us planning to come too!
