2017 Central Region - District 8 Championship

Day two of District 8’s championship at Kentucky Lake started out like day one with cool temperatures, clear skies and a slight breeze.  All the teams left Moors Resort launch area at daylight looking for that giant bag of fish to overcome the first day leaders’ eight pounds plus lead.

Fishing was a little tougher for most on day two, but day one leaders, Kenny Heckel and Kevin Meunier, from Kentucky LBL division, did not let up and brought another five fish limit to the scales weighing 16.50 lbs. for a two day total of 40.16 lbs.--more than enough to win the tournament. Our winners reported catching most of their fish on a 5XD Strike King Crank Bait and jigs.  Congratulations to Kenny and Kevin!

The Texas Northeast team of Mike Taylor and Ken Ratley jumped from fourth on day one to second place with the day two big bass weighing 5.77 lbs., a total weight of 14.84 lbs. and a two day total of 28.06 lbs. They reported using a Carolina Rig in seven to ten feet and a Texas rig in stump row in three feet of water.  With an additional 12.07 lbs. five fish limit on day two and a second day total of 27.48 lbs., Tennessee Central team of Larry and Phillip Harris took third place honors. The Harris team reported most of their fish came from mud flats in two to three feet of water using chatter baits and rattle traps. The Kentucky South Central team of Kelly Poynter and Chris Curry took fourth with a two day total of 25.14 lbs.  Fifth went to Steve Curtsinger and Alfred Goldsberry from Kentucky West with a two day total of 21.20 lbs.

Our top male /female team was David and Lori Rogers with a two day total of six bass weighing 17.21 lbs. The top adult /junior honors went to Scott and Tate Dennis with a two day total of 8.95 lbs.
