We kicked off the District 5 Championship today on Smith Mountain Lake. The Maryland, New York, Virginia East, and Virginia West divisions are fishing for a spot at the 2018 Berkley Team Series National Championship on Lake Guntersville, April 2018. This week’s event kicked off at Hales Ford Baptist Church with a wonderful meal and a great message from Pastor Melvin Harris. Thank you Hales Ford Baptist for the hospitality and fellowship!
Day 1 on Smith Mountain Lake was a good one. The weather was wonderful and the fish were biting. We had 48 teams fishing the waters as we anxiously waited for the anglers to weigh-in. Jeffery Ross and Clay Ross brought in a five fish limit and total weight of 15.63 lbs. Bryan Humphreys and Maurice Oakes also had a five fish limit and a total weight of 15.63 lbs; leaving day 1 with a tie at 1st place. Humphreys and Oakes brought in the big fish of the day weighing in at 4.84 lbs.
Trailing in close behind is Harold Black and Steve Crist with a 5 fish limit and total weight of 15.06.
We are looking forward to what Day 2 at the District 5 Championship will bring and hope Smith Mountain Lake will be good to our anglers tomorrow.
