Welcome to the Central Division District 9 Championship from Dayton Tennessee on beautiful Lake Chickamauga on the TN River and home of the 44lb. plus five fish limit. Thanks to the City of Dayton TN and Fish Dayton for hosting this District Championship.

The event kicked off on Thursday evening as all the fishermen met at the Bluewater Resort for the pre-tournament meeting in Dayton TN. After all the anglers had checked in at registration and received their boat assignments they were served pulled Bar B Que pork with all the fixings. Local Pastor Darryl Smith delivered the message to our anglers, as Darryl talked to everyone about hope or feeling as though there is no hope. After everything seems to build up and we think there is no way out or there seems to be no hope at all we do have hope, it’s in our lord and savior Jesus. After the message and meeting, we sent the fishermen home to get ready for the next day.

On Friday morning after the National Anthem, the 48 teams proceeded to take off in the cool morning air as the sun began to peek over the mountains in search of a five fish limit while trying to earn one of the 10 slots available to the National Championship in April 2018 along with the highest finishing Adult Junior team and highest finishing Male Female team. The weather man was calling for light winds and blue bird skies as the temperatures were to reach in to the 80’s later on. After the afternoon check-in and the first teams began showing up at the scales, we could see that for some it had been a tough day – Chickamauga Lake was not giving up the numbers of fish and the size of fish that this lake is known for. But as in every tournament, some teams find the right things to do and find the sizes and numbers required to take the lead.

The Indiana South team of Lewis Mallory and Mike Quinlin took the early lead by bringing a five fish limit to the scale weighing 16.50 lbs. topped off with the Big Bass of the day weighing 8 lbs. even showing us that the lake was giving up a big fish or two. Second place is the team of Michael Smith and Brian Jordan from TN East division bringing in a five fish limit weighing 15.39 lbs. The team of Randy Fain and Ronny Jones from TN East division brought in 4 fish to the scales weighing 14.22 lbs. placing them in third place. Fourth place for the day goes to the team of Steve Stewart and Johnny Creel from the GA South division weighing in a limit of fish that topped the scales at 14.12 lbs. Rounding out the top five is the TN East team of Eugene Randolph and George Galyon Jr. whose five fish limit weighed in at 12.18 lbs.

Currently leading in the Adult Junior is the TN East team of Dewayne Rankin and Cole Rankin, while the AL NW team of Dwayne Lewis and Malissa Lewis leads the Male Female.

Tomorrow is another day, so stay tuned...anything can happen.
