The East Region is wrapping up the 2017 season with the District 3 Qualifier on Lake Greenwood this week. A special thanks to the Greenwood Regional Tourism and Visitors Bureau for hosting our event.
Thursday evening, we gathered at the Arts Center of Greenwood for the pre-tournament meeting. The 54 teams came hungry for a great meal of pork barbeque with all of the fixins. We were blessed to have South Carolina BASS pro-angler Andy Montgomery spend some time with us. Our National Director Al Odom and Andy went through some Q&A together and then opened it up to the anglers for questions. Andy wrapped things up by sharing with us a few closing words on having a firm foundation to help you through different situations in life.
Friday morning the 54 teams were ready to hit the water in search of 5 green fish for weigh-in. We had clear skies at blast-off with a light bit of fog in the distance that would soon burn of for a beautiful day on the water. Guys were not really sharing much info prior to blast-off, but we gathered that conditions were tough with the lake turning over.
At 3PM the four flights started heading in to weigh-in their catch. The fishing was definitely tough based on what we saw from many of the teams. The average weight per teams was just a little over 8 pounds. The Top 3 Day one leaders are John Wilson and Blake Riddle in first with 16.82 pounds. Second place team of Sammy Moody and Hank O Shields had 13.93 pounds. Third place team of Greg Smith and Collin Smith had 13.19 pounds.
It’s anyone chance on day two to take to top 10 spots to earn a birth to the National Championship on Lake Guntersville. Stay tuned for Day 2 Results.
