The big day has arrived for 162 teams who are competing in the National Championship at beautiful Lake Guntersville.  A special shout out to our host Katy Norton from the Guntersville Convention Visitors Bureau. We also want to thank Kaitlyn Moore who sang the National Anthem all three days for our blast-off.  We also need to not that she qualified to fish the event however was unable to compete since she is expecting. Congratulations!

The Wednesday banquet and meal were held at the Guntersville State Park.  Our guest speaker was Elite Series Classic Champion Randy Howell.  Randy won the Bassmaster Classic in 2014 here on Lake Guntersville.  Randy shared his testimony leading up to the Classic win and what he learned about following the Lord and putting Him first.  We had 2 first time decisions and 17 rededications.

The dock talk for the first day of fishing was that up and down temperatures had the fishing all messed up.  As the first flight started coming in it seemed like some fish hadn’t been impacted by the cold snap.  As the weigh-in drew to a close, the top 5 teams had over 20-pound bags.

After day 1 the top five leading teams are:

Kent & Emily Ware – 23lbs Emily is 16 years young and this team qualified through the Adult/Junior Legacy series.

Kirk Wall & Charlie Reed  - 20.87lbs  These guys are from the North Carolina East Division.

C.J. Johnston & Matt Stanley – 20.20lbs  They qualified as Points Champions from the NC Piedmont division.

Brad Webb & Jay Ferk – 20.05lbs – Qualifiers from the VA East Division.

Michael & Greg Sibold – 20.02lbs – Qualifiers from the VA West Division.

The top 32 teams will get to fish in the Championship flight on Saturday barring the weather cooperates.  Currently the cut for 32^nd place is 15.20 pounds.  The weather will definitely have an impact on how the fishing will be on Day 2.  Check us out on Day 2 as we stream live on FaceBook.
