It was hot, muggy and had scattered thunderstorms in the forecast all day for our second Legacy event of 2019 but the Lord helped us out by keeping it at bay until the weigh in was complete.

Fishers of Men, Alabama South’s second legacy tournament of 2019 at Live Oak was a success.  Our Friday night meeting was held at the Creola Baptist Church. We had a great Friday night with 18 present at the meeting.  Brother Al Brown spoke to us out of Luke Chapter 5. In this scripture Jesus is preaching to the multitudes at the Lake Gennesaret. The crowds were pressing in on him when Jesus notices two empty boats at the water’s edge as the fishermen washed their nets. Jesus asked them to take him a little into the water. After he finished preaching he told the fishermen to go out deeper and let down your nets and you will catch a lot of fish. They told him they had worked all night and didn’t catch a thing but agreed to try again. This time their nets were so full they began to tear. The fishermen were so amazed when they realized what happened, one dropped to his knees and said “I am too much of a sinner for you to have around”. Jesus told them “Don’t be afraid. From now on you’ll be fishing for the souls of men!”

Brother Al asked us these questions: What should church be?  Why do you believe in church? Why should we be involved?  Believe in church because they are who is getting the word of Christ out to the people. Sharing burdens, supporting each other and encouraging others.  Be involved by connecting with God and one another. Fellowship is very important in the Church (Body of Christ). The Church gives us opportunity to give back. We can do more together than separated in groups.

Brother AL also explained there are three types of people in church: the ones on the shore, the ones in the shallow and the ones in the deep. First, we have those on the shore who are intrigued. They are spectators. The ones present because everyone else is doing it, just going with the crowd. The ones wanting to know “What’s in this for me?” These are the ones God is calling them, dealing with them and nudging them. They are seekers wanting to know the truth about forgiveness and a relationship with God. Second, we have those in the shallow. They are the ones who’ve heard God’s call. They have faith and are learning who they are with Christ. They enjoy hearing the Lord. However, this could be a dangerous place to be if you become comfortable and get stuck here. This could lead to limited faith. These people are listeners, not doers. Staying in the shallow allows them to see the bottom and have a sense of control. This could lead to boredom. The good news is God nurtures us. Last, we have those in the deep. They have a vibrant relationship with God. They hear the voice that calls them out. They are all in. The church is their life and it is not just a part of their life. These are the investors and servants. The ones who know working together and depending on each other is key because they are a part of something much bigger.

You can’t live a Christian life without the Church. You will be challenged, you’ll take risks. If you step out and take the risk and face the challenge for God, He will show up and do something amazing.

Thank You Al for the words of encouragement and reminding us that we all need follow the pathway to God.  At the end of the night we had 7 boats fishing on Saturday. We blasted the 7 boats off as soon as it was safe light. Congratulations to the Team of Steve White and Allison Bryars weighing in 7.40 pounds to take 1st place and big fish of the tournament, 3.15 lbs.
