The 2020 Berkley Team Series National Championship is underway from Sunny and Beautiful Leesburg Florida. For the next three days 147 teams will be competing on the Harris Chain of Lakes for over $150,000 in cash and prizes including one of two BassCat Boats that will be given away Saturday afternoon to the top two teams.

Thanks to Lyndsey McBride of the Greater Orlando Sports Authority, Steve Clenney of Visit Lake County and the City of Leesburg Florida for hosting the 2020 Berkley Team Series National Championship and for supplying our meal at the Wednesday night pre-tournament meeting.

The anglers were treated to a powerful message delivered by the Bass Chaplin Chris Wells as he delivered his message to an audience of over 350 people, Chris spoke to all about Repentance. If we are planning on being with our Lord and Savior we need to Repent and live our lives for the Lord as He intended for us to do and let others see Jesus shine through us in our daily lives.

As the golden sun began to break through the moss covered trees Tursday morning the 147 teams began their search for a five fish limit of largemouth bass. The weather for day one was beautiful, bright sunny skies with the temperatures in low 80’s with light winds. The mission for day one and two is to try and be in the top 29 places at the end of Friday’s weigh-in as they will be competing in the Championship Round on Saturday.

After the conclusion of the weigh-in on day one the SC Upstate team of John Wilson and Blake Riddle had figured out how to catch these Florida Bass leading the field with a limit of fish weighing 28.83 lbs. Virginia East anglers Michael and Mark Heatwole brought a limit of fish to the scales weighing 25.76 lbs. putting them in second place. Third place is the Georgia South team of Clayton Shoupe and Jonathan Sullivan bringing a five fish limit to the scales weighing 24.90 Lbs.  The MO Ozarks team of Dillon Statler and Ryan Groeteke had a solid limit of fish weighing 24.82 Lbs. for fourth place. Currently in fifth place is the TN east team of Jason White and David Burgess bringing five fish to the scales for a weight of 22.98 Lbs. Local favorites is the team of Billy Taylor and William Mcdevitt from Florida Central had a five fish limit that weighed 22.76 Lbs.

Big fish of the day belongs to the AL Central team of Josh West and John Wilson brought a monster to the scales weighing 9.55 Lbs.
