With the continued restrictions from the COVID 19 virus still in place, the North Carolina East Division was able to hold their second Team Series tournament on the Perquimans River April 17, 2021. 21 teams launched from the Town of Hertford City Ramp on the Perquimans River in search of the winning bag of fish. The teams were greeted to a beautiful sunrise with temperatures in the upper 50’s and temperatures that were predicted to warm up later in the day. Division Director Pat Seigh provided a devotion before the launch which focused on “No Surprise Endings” with the scripture verse coming from Mark 13:13b. He talked about how avid book readers fall into two categories when reading a book; those who like to be surprised by the ending and those who read the last page before even starting. Some people just love knowing what to expect so that no matter what happens in the middle, they know how it all turns out. Sometimes Christians approach life this way as well. We find it difficult to trust God because we can’t see the ending or understand the reason for everything in the middle. But in reality, though we may not know the details of how our individual life will turn out, we know that Christ will have the victory; for Scripture tells us that”… the Lamb will overcome them, for He is the Lord of lords, King of kings; and those who are with Him are called chosen, and faithful.” (Revelations 17:14) Because God has already won over all earthly kings and armies, gods, Satan, death and sin, we can rest knowing that no matter what happens between now and eternity, there are no surprise endings.

With the winds relatively light, our teams were able to run to their favorite places on the Rivers of the Albemarle Sound in search of the winning catch. The winds stayed light and variable throughout the day as well. 21 teams brought 83 Bass to the scales that weighed 212.84 pounds.  The average team weight was 10.14 pounds and the average fish weight was 2.56 pounds. When the weigh-in concluded, the father/daughter team of Gerald and Morgan Murray brought in an impressive five fish limit that weighed 21.27 pounds for first place, which included a nice 7.21 pound kicker fish. They received $1,050.00 dollars for their days work including first place for the tournament, first place bonus bucks $250.00 and the Big Fish pot of $105.00 dollars.  Coming in second place was Michael Evans and Brian Meadows, with a nice bag of fish that weighed 15.12 pounds. They received $473.00 dollars for second place, $150.00 for second place bonus bucks. Third place honors went to the team of Quinton Chappell and Chris Turner with a five bass limit that weighed 14.94 pounds. They took home $315.00 dollars for third place and $100.00 dollars for third place bonus bucks. Fourth place honors went to the team of Kirk Wall and Charlie Reed who brought in a five fish limit that weighed 14.72 pounds that included a 6.70 pound kicker. They received $157.00 for fourth place. Congratulations to all our winners and a special thanks to all our members who participated in this event.
