FOM SC UPSTATE LEGACY division hosted our final 2026 divisional event on Keowee, Saturday June 13 with 9 boats competing.
We first of all want to thank Return Baptist church for beng a great Host! They opened their doors and welcomed us in for a time of food and fellowship. Thanks especially to Austin and Stanley for organizing and serving our guys on Fri night.
David Shirley was our speaker Friday night, and shared a message on how things ON THE WATER are LIFE LESSONS for all of us. He set this message up with my life verse, Galatians 6:9 SO LET'S NOT GET TIRES OF DOING WHAT IS GOOD. AT JUST THE RIGHT TIME WE WILL REAP A HARVEST OF BLESSING IF WE DON'T GIVE UP.
A major aspect of Fishing is preparation. All of our Legacy Teams are represented by an adult angler and a junior angler. Both of them have been "preparing" for the Keowee tournament both short term and long term. Some prefished the week before and some just discussed a plan from the knowledge they had built over years of fishing Kewoee. Either way there was some kind of preparation for fishing Keowee.
A few other phrases that David gave us were: Patience is Powerful Virtue, Failure is not FInal, the Right company matters, Adaptability will determine success, and our "greatest" catch probably won't be fish. How true it is that we anglers can relate to ALL these concepts in our efforts for fishing, but they translate DIRECTLY into our LIFE and especially the FAITH journey we have as a Christian.
Even on Saturday a couple of teams had the opportunity to demonstrate these real life applications during th tournament. Adam and Reed Smith especially did when they had some boat issues during the tournament. Years of preparation and relationships were a factor in their ability to adapt during the day. They were able to get their winning weight of 9.75lbs back to the weigh in thorugh persistance in that situation. My prayer is that all of carry our Fishing practices into our Life to become better FISHERS OF MEN!
