The Coughlins win the Ameriprise 1st place on Douglas
Story by Steve Jennings
The fourth East Tennessee Fishers of Men Tournament was held on Douglas Lake.
Leadvale Baptist Church was the host church again this year. Ginger and the Ladies of the church do an awesome job making everyone welcome and provide some of the best lasagna you will ever eat. After a great meal came a message from Pastor Brandon Cates, where we had one young man get saved.
Saturday morning came with a mixed morning of overcast skies and then the sun came but about an hour before weigh-in the rain began and did not let up until after the weigh-in was over. With Saturday being a completely different day weather wise fishermen were wondering if the changes would affect the fishing. Maybe it did but there was a lot of fish good fish caught and there were 21 limits weighed in, so it was a good day to fish.
The Ameriprise First place went to the father and son team of Matt and Bob Coughlin. This team reported catching the lunker of the tournament on the first cast of the day and then caught only 2 more fish cranking and at 11:30 put the big plug down and went to flipping. By weigh-in time they returned to the scales with 5 fishing weighing in at 20.01 pounds
Second place went to the team of Marty Steward and Bobby Ferguson who managed to catch 17.69 pounds of fish for their high finish.
Third place went to Eddie Ball and Kenny Holt who reported catching over 25 fish during the day on Strike King deep diving crankbaits and Caroline rig fishing as deep as 25 feet on rocky points.
Fourth place went to the team of Kenny Sexton and J. C. Loveday who had 14.08 pounds of fish. This knowable team ran the Mercury powered BassCat all over Douglas Lake to catch their fish flipping bushes.
The Lucky Dawg award which is White Pine Marine pays the next entry for the team that finished one place out of the money. This time goes to the team of Rod Garrett and Paul Rogers.
Eugene Randolph and George Galyon got the Berkley Cast for Cash $250 this time with a nice bag of bass weighing in at 12.82 pounds.
