The North Carolina East Division of the Fishers of Men Team Series held their second scheduled tournament of 2019 this past Saturday, April 27 on the Pasquotank River. Twenty four boats launched from the Waterfront Park Boat ramp in Elizabeth City in search of the winning catch. The weather was a bit breezy and cool under sunny skies with temperatures in the upper 50’s. Unfortunately, a cold front with severe storms passed through the area Friday night, which made for a tough day Saturday.

Our Friday night meeting was hosted by the Camden United Methodist Church in Camden. The Camden UMC Men’s Group Group prepared a wonderful meal that included Spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, and plenty of delicious deserts prepared by the Jackie Berry Circle Women’s Group. Pastor Marc O’Neal delivered another powerful message that was based how Satin lures us into sin. Pastor Marc mentioned how, like the alluring baits fishermen use to catch fish, is how Satin uses baits that cause us to stray away from our faith. He provided us with ways to help us remain focused on the Word of God and to resist the temptations of sin.

April is such a great time to be in pursuit of those spawning big fish and the Pasquotank River is a great place to be to bring in that winning 5 fish limit. 24 teams brought 96 Bass to the scales that weighed 240.71 pounds.  The average team weight was 10.03 pounds and the average fish weight was 2.51 pounds. When the weigh-in concluded, William Jordan III and Eugene Foushee brought in the winning five fish limit that weighed 19.33 lbs. for first place, which included a nice 5.23 pound kicker fish. They received a $1,200.00 dollars for their days work including first place for the tournament and first place bonus bucks $262.50. Coming in second place was Willian Chappell and Larry Weatherly, with another nice bag of fish that weighed 18.52 pounds. They received $540.00 dollars for second place, $157.50 for second place bonus bucks. Third place honors went to the team of Jason Smith and Sam Spruill with a five bass limit that weighed 16.12 pounds. They took home $360.00 dollars for third place and $105.00 dollars for third place bonus bucks. Fourth place went to Kirk Wall and Charlie Reed who brought a five fish limit to the scales that weighed 15.82 pounds. They took home $180.00 dollars for their effort. The big fish for the tournament was brought in by the team of Tommy Banks and Bubba Banks. They received $120.00 dollars for weighing a nice 6.62 pound fish. Congratulations to all our winners and a special thanks to all our members who participated in this event.

We would like to thank Pastor Marc O’Neal and the Camden United Methodist Church for hosting the meeting and the Camden UMC Men’s Group for preparing the meal. We also thank the Jackie Berry Circle Women’s Group for preparing the desserts.
