Odom & Smith Claim Win on Santee Cooper

Our 2nd stop of the year brought us to the famed Santee Cooper Lakes and started off with a Pre-Tournament breakfast meeting with Bojangles Sausage Bisquits, Coffee and Orange Juice. First Baptist Manning Pastor and my old College roomate Philip Reynolds brought a brief message about regardless of how often or bad we fail just like Peter that God is always waiting with open arms for us to come back to him.

Our 43 teams left the dock under blustery conditions with winds blowing 15-20 out of the Northwest. Anybody who has ever fished Santee knows what a challenging boat ride that can create. The wind never let up but this is still Santee and you know some big’uns are gonna show up.

Leading the charge was the team of Dane Odom and Don Smith who weighed in pretty early in the First Flight to set the bar with a 26.52 lb bag. While several teams made a strong run at them in the end that stood up for the win and earned the pair over $3300 as they collected Berkley Cast for Cash and Bonus Bucks

Finishing in a close 2nd was Sean Anderson who fished by himself and weighed 25.95 lbs. In 3rd was the team of Justin & Jordan Marlowe who brought 24.78 lbs to the scales. 4th Place went to Brent Riley & Nate Burgess with 23.96 lbs while rounding out the top 5 was the team of Marshall French and Tripp Poplin with 22.99 lb.

The Big Fish of the event went to John Byrd III and Bryan Miller with a 10.72 lb Monster. John’s last 2 tournaments have produced a 9.20 and now a new PB 10.72. Wow!!!
