Jeff and David Suratt Claim Title as Fishers of Men National Champions!

There was little that was consistent at the 2021 Berkley Team Series National Championship. The water which as 2 feet low the day before competition rose almost 2 feet on the storied impoundment overnight, a result of over 3 inches of rain. The beautiful rich green color of the water changed to an almost orange in some areas, and winds which blew a consistent 20 mph out of the SW changed to 15-20 out of the NE during the event.

But one thing that was consistent was the AL-NW team of David and Jeff Suratt as they brought 3 solid bags to the scales including a 16.49 bag on Championship Saturday to give them a 3 day total of 53.01 lbs. They laid claim to the Title of Fishers of Men National Champions by almost 3 lbs. The win earned them the keys to a brand new 2021 Basscat Puma/Mercury 250 ProXS/Motorguide packge valued at over $70,000. They added another $1300 in Bonus Bucks winnings to push their winnings to over $71,000. They reported catching the majority of their fish on hard cover on Scottsboro Tackle Swimbaits

Saving their best day for Championship Saturday the KY-SC team of Scott Wasson and Marlon Brown who subbed in for Doug Florkowski as Doug was back home watching his son play football and brought one of only two 20 lb bags to the scales to vault from 10^th to 2^nd with a 3 day total of 50.07 lbs. They took home the keys to a new Basscat Margay/Merucry 150 ProXS/Motorguide package valued at $40,000. They used swimbaits loaned to them by another competitor Don Smith to make the big jump and claim the runner-up spot.

Finishing 3^rd were our leaders from Day 2 the SC-Lowcountry team of Ronnie Mueller and Wayne Frierson who ran out of fish and only brought 3 to the scales today. Their 3 day total was 47.56 lbs and with 2 days worth of Big Fish and Bonus Bucks winnings took home over $7,000. In 3 National Championships on Guntersville the team now has a pair of 3^rd Place finishes and a 6^th place finish. Apparently they take a liking to this place.

In 4^th was the MD team of Joe Lloyd and Daun Nicholson whose 3 day total was 47.10. They reported catch fish on chatterbaits and took home $4,250 for their efforts.

Finishing in a tie for 5^th Place were the teams of Dillion Statler and Ryan Groeteke from MO-OZ who had the days biggest bag at 20.81 and Lavon and Zachery White from AL-S who both totaled up 47.07 lbs. They both took home $2,750 plus Bonus Bucks for their catch.

The top 37 teams all earned a minimum of $1,000 as the Tournament paid out over $175,000 in Cash and Prizes for over 350% of entries. Wow!

It was announced during the weigh-in that the 2022 National Championship will be headed to another famous Alabama fishery, Lake Eufaula in the Spring of 2022.
