Fishers of Men Texas Central season opener is in the books. Anglers gathered for event registration, message and a great meal provided by the wonderful folks at 3C Cowboy Fellowship in Salado Texas. A great message was presented by Pastor Bryan of 3C Cowboy Fellowship. We welcomed a few new teams to the division and welcomed back many from last year, it was truly great seeing all the anglers and spending time chatting about the Lord and fishing,
Due to high winds predicted for the day we decided to trailer for this event, we held a boat check at Wal Mart parking lot and released anglers to travel to the boat ramp of thier choosing. The winds did show up, and they showed up with force mid morning. Belton lake offers plenty of opportunity to get out the wind with a the elevated landscape and snaking river layout. The anglers were working hard to get five bites, and coming in with five total fish for the day proved to be challenging, we saw 5 total limits, 2 teams came in with 4 fish in thier bag, 4 teams had 3 fish limits, 3 teams with a two fish bag and 4 teams came in with only one fish to place on the scales. Belton Lake fished very tough this weekend, but someone is always gonna walk away with the "W", and this weekend regardless of the competition, weather, wind and willingness of the fish to respond we recognize Colton Niemeier and his father (who fished as a sub) finishing with 9.23 pounds. Bob Reed and Christopher Carpenter secured second place with 8.65. Finishing in 3rd place were the team of Gus Chavira and Toby Turner with a total of 7.65 pounds. The team of Gary and Tina Johnson finished it out by bringing in 7.38 to the scales for the fourth place spot.
Despite the high winds and the struggle to convince the fish to bite in 53 degree water tempatures the season opener was a great success.
