Another great tournament is in the books for the Texas Central division, yesterday the anglers of Texas Central FOM gathered at Jones Brother Park on beautiful Lake Travis in Austin Texas to battle it out. They were surprised to see very cool temperatures and high winds, (not really), no one is surprised to see high winds in the Central Texas, however we were all puzzled by the cooler temperatures that had rolled in. A few anglers showed up in shorts and were regretting it for the first few hours of the day. Lake Austin is currently 23ft low, but that did not effect the fish, pleasure boaters, tubers, and jet ski operators from coming out to play for the day.
We launched 18 boats out of Jones Brother Park at first light, all anxious to swing for the fences in an effort to bring 5 big ones to the scales at 3pm. At the end of the day we saw 13 of the 18 teams check in with a limit of 5 fish. A grand total of 78 fish were caught and every team stepped up to the scales with fish to weigh. As with any sport, there has to be a winner at the end of the day, and today it was the team of Bob Reed and Christopher Carpenter. They finished off the day with an impressive sack of lake Travis fish weighing in at 14.89 pounds. For their efforts they walked away with a first place check as well as a first place Bonus Bucks check. The Team of Stephen Cooksey and Troy Slaughter secured the second place spot with a good limit of fish weighing 13.09. They also took a check for second place in Bonus Bucks. The team of Will Eller and Nathan Eller finished out the paid positions with a limit of fish weighing 12.72 pounds. Nathan Eller also had big bass for the day with a lake Travis giant tilting the scales to 7.33. They captured third place in Bonus Bucks as well, finishing off the days pay outs.
Erik Olson gave a great testimony at the end of the weigh in regarding his life threatening experience with COVID. What an incredible work our Lord did during this time for Erik and his family. It is always great to hear a testimony that makes you smile from ear to ear and leaves you with a strong desire to praise God and thank him for his work. Erik certainly presented such a testimony for all the anglers and we are very thankful. Erik also spoke a bit about his joy competing of competing in Fishers of Men events and his history of doing so. He and his partner Kory Grelle recently returned from the National Championship event on Lake Guntersville, we were very happy to have such great representatives from Texas Central competing at the National Championship.
We are so very thankful for our volunteers that helps during planning, set up, operations and tear down of the weigh in. A huge shout out to Team Loggains, Nikki Washburn and JW, Melissa Eller, Ty and Nathan Eller, Josh and Luke Bingham, and all the anglers who jump in to lend a helping hand. So very thankful for you all
