ANOTHER BLESSED DAY TO BE SPENDING IT OUTSIDE IN GOD’S GREAT OUTDOORS

Fishers of Men, Alabama South held their fourth tournament on the Alabama River on May 27, 2017.  We launched out of Swift Creek.  The Friday night meeting was held at Prattmont Baptist Church in Prattville.  We so appreciate Jimmy Barrett and the hard work he does each year to find a church to host us.  This year like always he came through for Alabama South.  For the meal we had smoked boston butts again for bbq sandwiches, chips and then 3 different kinds of pound cake.  Considering we had less people than at Camden, but more meat I have to believe everyone was hungry as there was not a lot of meat left.  That is the way we like it.  As I have said before, if you like to cook outdoors, get you a Masterbuilt smoker.  They are really good.  You can find them pretty much anywhere you go.  We had 37 people at the meeting Friday night with 16 boats fishing on Saturday.  There were13 teams represented at the meeting on Friday night.  The speaker I had lined up had something come up that he had forgotten about so regretfully for the people present they got to listen to me again.  This week in my daily bible reading I had been in John.  I had read John 5 and that was where I started.  It talked about the pool called Bethesda and the man who had been lying there for say 38 years trying to be the first to get to the pool after the angel had stirred it.  Someone else always was able to get to it before him.  Jesus had walked up and was talking to him and asked him did he not want to get healed and he explained to him how someone always got to the pool before he could.  Jesus told him to rise and take up thy bed and walk.  Because of his faith he was healed.  Our faith is what we have to hold on to.  If we don’t put our faith in the Lord the day will come when he looks at us and says one of two things.  Welcome my good and faithful servant.  Come on in.  Or he will say, Depart from me as I know you not.  The difference here is one will be a place of torment and weeping and nashing.  The other will be a place of eternal life and joy as we worship our Lord.  Previously I forgot to pose a question to the people when I finished speaking about the fisherman and the catch they brought in.  Tonight it worked out that I remembered the question so I posed it to all present.  As fisherman they all knew what it meant.  In the end, Will You Be a CULL OR A KEEPER.  To me it is an important question.  Friday night we had no decisions or rededications.  We had several prayer request that were brought up and then I made an announcement that I am sure caught all by surprise, but the time had come for the Alabama South team to step down and allow a new team to take over.  We are in deep prayer that our Lord is laying a burden on the heart of the person who will put together the new Alabama South team.  We have had a great 13 years and still have several more months to go.  We will still hosts the FOM State Championship and then will make our way to Neely Henry to help with the District 2 Championship in November.

Saturday morning was very nice and Alabama Central was having their last Legacy tournament at Swift Creek also.  Once we had all of the boats checked in Matt Higgins, Alabama Central Legacy Director and myself went out in his boat to blast the boats off.

At the end of the day there were 56 fish brought to the scales that weighed in at 99.86 lbs.  Congratulations to the team of Brian and Kim Moye.  Conner, their son was subbing for his mom Kim and they brought in 5 fish that weighed in at 11.46 lbs to take first place.  They caught their fish on junebug baby brush hogs, frogs, and swim jig fishing the backwater along the bank.  They had caught all of their fish by 10:00 AM.  Congratulations to the team of Sam Noble and Kenny Roeman.  They brought in 5 fish that weighed in at 11.33 Lbs. to take second place.  For the most part they caught their fish on a white swim jig in grass.  Congratulations to the team of Mike Barnett and Jimmy Simmons.  They brought in 5 fish that weighed in at 10.62 Lbs. to take third place.  They caught their fish on a little bit of everything in shallow water.  Congratulations to the team of Michael Stewart and Thomas Pugh.  They brought in the big fish of the day that weighed in at 3.82 Lbs.  They caught it on a spinnerbait.  It was a War Eagle in sun perch color with a copper blade.
