The East Region kicked off the district four qualifier in Raleigh/Durham NC on Falls Lake this weekend.  A special thanks to the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance for hosting our event.

Thursday evening, we gathered at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Durham for the pre-tournament meeting.  When the 80-team field checked-in and received their info sheets they started lining up for an awesome meal that was being prepared by the Outdoor Ministry of Ridgecrest.  A special thanks to Rod King and several of the members of Ridgecrest.  We were blessed to have our very own Ron Duffy the National Chaplin share a message with the group.  He spoke on the importance of have a good source to navigate through life.

Friday morning, we played the national anthem for the field before we started blasting off the 4 flights to head out for their 5 fish limits.  There was a light breeze and fairly thick cloud cover most of the day that didn’t start breaking until after our weigh-in started at 3pm.  The lake was down a couple of feet so the fishing was a little tougher than expected.  Temperatures have also been fairly warm keeping the water hotter than normal.

The fishing was tougher than expected with the cut weight to make the national championship in April at a little over 10 pounds after day one.  There were 21  5 fish limits and a total fish count of 198 for all 80 teams. 

Leading the pack with 24.77 is David and Alan Farman from the NC Central Division.  They also had the big fish for day one which was a whopping 9.47 pounds.  The Second-place team of Mike Carden and Claiborn Cox had 16.22 pounds.  Rounding out the Top 3 from the NC Piedmont division CJ Johnston and Matt Stanley with 15.58.

Day two will be a different mix for all of the anglers.  It looks like there will be clear skies and a little breeze.  Come and join us at the Upper Barton Creek Ramp to see who makes the Lake Guntersville National Championship in April 2018.
