Welcome to the South Central District 6 Championships from West Monroe at Forsythe Park on the Ouachita River. Thanks to the Chamber of Commerce, the City of West Monroe and the First Baptist Church of West Monroe for hosting this District 6 Championship. 
 
The event kicked off on Thursday evening as all the fishermen meet at the First Baptist Church of West Monroe for the pre-tournament meeting. After all the anglers had checked in at registration and received their boat assignments they were served BBQ brisket with all the fixings. South Central’s Regional Direct Danny Smith delivered the message to our anglers. Danny spoke about life, death and eternity and how fishing maybe important to us, but it’s nothing compared to Salvation in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. After the message and meeting, we sent the fishermen home to get ready for the next day. 

On Friday morning, 41 teams proceeded to take off in the warmer than normal temperature as the sun began to rise over the river in search of a five fish limit while trying to earn one of the 8 slots available to the National Championship in April 2018 along with the highest finishing Adult Junior and highest finishing Male Female team.  There was some light rain mid-morning, but the weather cleared up for a partly cloudy mid 80’s day.  As the teams started checking in, the scales showed that it had been a tough day on the river for some.  But of course some teams knew what to do to bring in the sizes and numbers required taking the first day lead.

The team of Risinger and McMillan took the top spot with a 5 fish limit weighing in at 15.64 and a big bass of 3.98.  The second spot was taken by Colvin and Branch with a 5 fish 14.78 stringer including a 4.3 bass.   Taking the third place overall including the big bass for the first day was Todd Wolff with 5 fish at 13.09 and big bass 4.71.
