The fourth event for the 2018 Fishers of Men Ohio Team Series is done and I mean done. Hot and hot was the weekend agenda--hot weather in the mid to upper 90s. And hot fishing for most as both the smallmouth and largemouth were willing to fight.

Our weekend began on Friday evening with a meeting held at Lake Erie State Park Harbor View Shelter House, which did provide some shade from the heat.  John Norris and Dave Faler grilled brats and hot dogs which we ate along with potato salad, beans, and of course kraut. After dinner, John Norris, our chaplain, brought us the message which he kept short and sweet asking all to accept Jesus to change their lives. Danny Ryan also shared a recent incident when God was part of bringing together something great when it was not expected. He told us we should be attentive to what God has for us.

At daybreak on Saturday morning 24 boats passed by the launch boat and went in all directions looking for a winning bag. Some chose to stay in West Harbor looking for largemouth, some went out on Lake Erie after those fighting smallmouth, and some did a little of each.

A few boats returned a little before the 3:00 weigh-in time due to aerator issues, which caused concern about the catch; one fisherman needed medical attention to remove a hook in his leg. However he did weigh in his five fish before seeking attention.

The team of James Mayle and Ron Nutter was our winner with a five fish limit of smallmouth weighing 19.07 lbs. They reported catching fish all day using a drop shot and throwing a tube. Great job and congratulations! In second place, with five smallmouth weighing 17.96 lbs., was the team of Jeff Kauble and Thomas Lothes. Third, with a mixed bag of fish, was the team of Gary Sindelir and John Duwel. Gary and John had a limit weighing 17.86 lbs., including a 6.25 lb largemouth that took big bass honors. The father/son team of Justen and Ty Fain, who are always in the hunt, were fourth with a limit weighing 16.76 lbs.

Twenty-one teams brought a limit of fish with 24 teams catching 112 fish.  Thanks to all the fishermen and also my helpers, Dave Faler, John Norris, Kate and Gavan Gump, Dennis Smith, and Joel Harrell. You all made it work!
