The North Carolina East Division Of the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail held their second of five scheduled tournaments on the Perquimans River this past Saturday. Our teams met on Friday evening and were treated to an outstanding meal of smoked pork loin with all the fix’ins prepared by the Hertford Baptist Church. The wonderful desserts were prepared by our ladies from the First Church of the Nazarene and Camden United Methodist Church. Pastor Kris Adams, who is our division Chaplain, brought us the message from the Gospel of John, chapter 20 vs. 19-23, where Jesus returned to his disciples and breathed the Holy Spirit upon them. Jesus told them to become part of Gods mission to go out into the world and defeat evil and with the power of the spirit and to change the world. Jesus also arms us with the weapon of forgiveness and to forgive people of their sins and to change the world.
Saturday morning started out with chilly temperatures around 38 degrees and just before sunrise, the fog rolled in causing about a thirty minute delay for blast-off. The staff decided to wait until the fog lifted to insure our teams would be able to safely run to their first spot. As the fog lifted, the sun broke through and brought bluebird skies with temperatures in the 60’s with light winds. The beautiful conditions allowed our teams to spread out all over the Albemarle Sound in pursuit of their five fish limit.  Nineteen of the twenty nine teams were able to accomplish this goal. All together 120 fish were brought to the scales for a total weight of 307 pounds with all of them returned to the waters of the Perquimans River to fight another day. The average weight of the fish caught was 2.56 pounds. Special thanks goes out to all our teams for maintaining this great release percentage. At the end of the day, the team of Joe Glazebrook and Chris Carmell brought a five bass limit to the scales to win first place with a total weight of 20.89 pounds anchored with a 7.35 pound kicker that was big fish for the tournament. Joe and Chris took home a nice payday of $1,760 dollars. Coming in a close second place was the team of Thomas Jones and Steve Albertson with a total weight of 20.46 pounds with the second biggest fish of the tournament that weighed 7.01 pounds. They earned $757.00 dollars for their second place finish. Third place went to the team of Don Porter and Todd Winslow who brought in a five fish limit that weighed 19.20 pounds. They earned $505.00 dollars for their efforts. Fourth place went to the team of David Buchanan and Scott Mummert with a limit of fish that weighed 18.32 pounds. They took home a $254.00 check for the day. Fifth place went of Kevin Jones and Gerald Murray with a total weight of 13.76 pounds. They earned $174.00 dollars for their efforts.
We would like to thank the Town of Hertford for the use of their facilities and the Town of Winfall for the use of their park for the weigh-in. We also thank the Hertford Baptist Church for the food and providing the meeting space. Special thanks goes out to our local sponsors including Swampdonkey Tackle.com, PGF Archery and Outdoors, our ministry partners First Church of the Nazarene, Camden United Methodist Church, and our local supporter Bassakwards.
We would like to thank our National Sponsors: Bass Cat Boats, Mercury, Power Pole, King’s Home, Rayjus, Duckett Fishing, Stren, Pfluger, Strike King, Ray Marine, TH Marine, Kistler Rods, Berkley, Spider Wire, Hydrowave, ORCA, Jacobs Glass, Gator Guards, Buckeye, Abu Garcia and Shakespeare.
