The Fishers of Men Team Series Wildcard Tournament presented by Berkley is underway from Wheeler Lake located in Decatur Al. Thirty three teams will be trying to earn one of 10 spots available into the National Championship March 12th -14th on the Harris Chain of lakes in Leesburg, Fl.
Thanks to the First Baptist Church of Decatur for hosting our Thursday Night meeting and the Decatur Morgan County Tourism for hosting this event. The anglers were treated to a wonderful meal and a great message delivered by Pastor Bradley Griggs of Linley Lane Baptist Church.
As the morning light begin to break the Anglers were greeted with the strongest cold front of the season. With temperatures hovering in the mid 30’s and Brisk North Winds as the 33 teams began to leave in search of a limit of bass hopefully toped off with a good size kicker fish. The weather warmed up slightly during the day as the clouds gave way to sunshine making it appear warmer than it was.
After all the teams had weighed their fish the team of Chris Baldus and Chet Borden from AL NE had taken the lead with a 5 fish limit weighing 19.59 lbs. Chris and Chet also had Big Fish honors for day one with a 4.91 Largemouth. The AL NW team of Andrew and Lacey Lambert are in second place with a five fish limit weighing 18.16 lbs. Third place is Barry Isbell and Matt Crain from AL NE bringing in five fish weighing 15.65 lbs. The Adult Junior Team of Robert and Samuel Richey from TX E are holding down fourth place with a limit of fish weighing 13.38 lbs.
Day two could be challenging as the temperatures are expected to drop into the upper twenties tonight, we will have to wait and see what effect the weather will have on tomorrows bite. Over two thirds of the teams brought a fish five limit to the scales today.
