With some restrictions from the COVID 19 virus being lifted, the North Carolina East Division was finally able to hold their first Team Series tournament on the Chowan River May 23, 2020. 22 teams launched from the Bayside Marina on Pembroke Creek in search of the winning bag of fish. The teams were greeted to a beautiful sunrise with temperatures in the lower 70’s with a high of 80 degrees predicted. Division Director Pat Seigh provided a devotion before the launch which focused on our “Weapons of Warfare”. He talked about how our world is under attack by a ruthless enemy whose primary purpose is death. The devotion looked at seven weapons that we can use in this spiritual warfare. The weapons are 1) Prayer, Praise and Worship 2) The Word of God 3) The Name of Jesus 4) The Blood of Jesus 5) Our Faith 6) Our Testimony and 7) Our Unity in Christ. In closing, the message tells us that as believers, we are not powerless, and that we have been given these weapons to assist us in fighting against this evil.
With the weather relatively stable, our teams were able to run to their favorite places on the Chowan River and the Albemarle Sound in search of the winning catch. 22 teams brought 84 Bass to the scales that weighed 251.63 pounds. The average team weight was 11.44 pounds and the average fish weight was 3.00 pounds. When the weigh-in concluded, J.A Willford III and Michael Chlomoudis brought in an impressive five fish limit that weighed 22.55 pounds for first place, which included a nice 5.96 pound kicker fish. They received $1,100.00 dollars for their days work including first place for the tournament and first place bonus bucks $250.00. Coming in second place was Gerald Murray and his substitute partner Tyler Jones, with another nice bag of fish that weighed 19.78 pounds. They received $495.00 dollars for second place, $150.00 for second place bonus bucks. Third place honors went to the team of Tommy Houlroyd and Brandon Overton with a five bass limit that weighed 19.10 pounds. They took home $330.00 dollars for third place and $100.00 dollars for third place bonus bucks.
