Straber and Robbins secure National Tournament Berth with win in final event
(Indian Lake Chain - Wolcottville, In)
The Indiana North Division concluded the season with the last stop of the five-tournament schedule on the Indian Lake Chain on August 7th. Three teams took off from the Witmer launch, with two teams battling for the top spot. The team of Austin Graber and Darlynn Graber trailed by one point and needed a win plus a big bag to secure the top spot. Garrick Straber and Mikael Robbins needed to finish in one of the top two spots to win the season points championship. They lead by one point and a six plus pound accumulative weight advantage coming into the event.
The team of Gary Straber, again serving as a sub for son Garrick, and Mikael Robbins came to the scales with the only five fish limit and secured the victory for the day and the alright points champion for the season. Straber and Robbins weighted a mixed bag of smallies and largemouth for 8.40 pounds. The Grabers, Austin and sub Evan, brought in four fish at 7.26 pounds. Laramine Clouser put her team on the board with their only keeper at 2.11 pounds. Unfortunately for her, Austin Graber stayed consistent at winning another big bass honor at 2.12 pounds. That gave Austin three outright big bass wins and a tie on the season.
Teams who fished three or more events in the season and not winning the points championship can advance on to a regional or wild card qualifier event to make the national tournament. Garrick Straber and Mikael Robbins will need to wait till mid-November to see who will join them at the 2022 Berkley Team Series National Championship on Lake Eufaula next spring!Dallas Chain - 08/07/21
